| | Description | If someone you love is diagnosed with autism, LOUDER THAN WORDS is the first book you should read.
One morning, Jenny McCarthy was having a cup of coffee when she sensed something was wrong. She ran into her two-year-old son Evan’s room and found him seizing. In that moment, Jenny went from being the mother of an average toddler to being in the midst of a medical odyssey. Doctor after doctor misdiagnosed Evan until—after many harrowing, life-threatening episodes later—one amazing doctor discovered that Evan is autistic.
Though Evan finally had a diagnosis, Jenny didn’t know what to do next and she soon found herself alone without any resources except for her determination to help her son. Jenny eventually realized that she’d have to become a detective. She spoke with many doctors, parents, governmental agencies, private foundations, and essentially earned a Phd in “Google Research.” At last, she discovered an intense combination of behavioral therapy, diet, and supplements that became the key to saving Evan from autism. And, now in this book, she creates a roadmap for parents who are concerned about their own child.
Jenny does more than just reveal the winning formula that worked for Evan. Her story shares the frustrations and joys of raising an autistic child and shows how with love and determination a parent can shape their child’s life and happiness. | |

An amazing story of recovery Nov 07, 2008 This book is a quick read that is inspiring and amazing. Jenny gives a very real look at the reality of having a child with autism, and the difficulty that many of us parents of autistic children have getting the help for our kids that they need. Jenny shows just how much we can accomplish with perseverance and a belief that our children CAN GET BETTER. It's stories like hers that have inspired me to keep searching for the answers for my son's issues, and now he is nearly recovered! This book also has a helpful section in the back of resources for parents just getting started.

How did this make the Best Sellers List? Nov 01, 2008 This book is poorly written and the foul
language was unnecessary. Don't get me
wrong, I like Jenny's sense of humor and
she's cute, but she can't write. She thinks
she knows more from Googling than most
medical professionals. She, also, has limited
knowledge and experience, but thinks she's
an expert. Take her opinions with a grain of
salt. However, she does point out some interesting
things about food allergies and yeast infections,
as well as, the warnings about inoculations
and suppressed immune systems. It would
have been nice if she would have concluded
the book with details on her child's present
accomplishments and how he was functioning
outside of the home and in a school setting.
Why she gave thanks to the Mormons is beyond
me because their prayers didn't help and were
after the fact, and she was vulgar with them!
I had previously thought Jenny was a bit more
intelligent until I read this book. That's been
a disappointment too!

Everyone should read this! Oct 31, 2008 This is a great book! Extremely interesting, entertaining and informing! Whether you are a parent, planning on being a parent or have no kids in your future you should read this. Jenny McCarthy does a great job of telling her own story, as well as, explaining the autistic epidemic that now effects 1 in 94 boys in America. Lots of great information everyone should know.
